Giving it a try...

I guess I'm coming to the world of blogging a bit late, but I never had any interest in trying it before! But now I figure it's easier for me to share updates with people this way than via the traditional mass email. That way the people who don't care what I'm up to can stop getting the emails, right? :-)

On the flip side, I can't imagine that I have that much interesting to say, so we'll see if I keep this up for very long. Hopefully I'll have full time work soon and won't be able to do this.

In the meantime, let me catch you all up with me....since moving to lovely small-town Strathroy, ON in late June, I have learned that it's almost impossible to get a full-time teaching job in this part of Ontario. In fact, I heard last week that over 80% of new grads from teacher's college in ON this year found work as supply ("Substitute," in American) teachers. I was led to believe a large number of the remaining 20% are not working as full-time teachers, either. So competition is fierce, and you really have to know someone to have a chance.

However, I have managed to get on the supply lists for 1 private school, and on the elementary (K-8) list for the closest public board, and the high school list for the next closest board. There's still paperwork to be completed for both of the public boards, and then I'll need to go out and introduce myself at schools so I get requests. But hopefully I'll be busy by November, and meeting people who may want to hire me for full-time jobs someday!

In the meantime, I've been looking at lots of other types of jobs, but am realizing that I actually like teaching much more than I would like most other things I could do without going back to school. So I think I'll probably keep teaching for at least a few more years!

I've also been knitting a lot, so one of the things I probably will do on this blog is post pictures of my knitting now and then. I've started reading other knitting blogs and forums, and am amazed by the virtual community of knitters out there!

That's probably a sufficient start to my blog. We'll see how it evolves from here! :-)

That is hilarious...Please do not stop emailing me...it is the only thing that gives me a smile on a bad day...well...that's not entirely true...Emma makes me smile everyday...but you're the next thing that makes me smile on a bad day! LOL. And I really enjoy listening to your 'out in the boonies' life stories. Makes me homesick! Sometimes I only wish it were me...sometimes not...but sometimes I do. Take care. Talk to you soon. ;-)
