Knitting stuff....well, the second Parasol sock is done and on my makeshift sock blocker as I type. It looks just the same as the first, so I probably don't need to bore you with another piccie. But I have decided that rather than forcing my foot into them, I should probably gift them to someone with slightly smaller feet. (US Size 7 1/2, roughly, I think!) My MIL might fit the bill, I have to check her show size next time I see her....

My Swallowtail is beginning to grow nicely now. I'm 7 repeats into the main pattern, and it has started to click for me. I just needed to spend enough time working on it to really get in the rhythm, I think. I'm trying to do 1 repeat a day now, but as it gets bigger I may struggle with that rule. We shall see! Photo below gives you some idea of where it is now...

7 repeats of Swallowtail

And not knitting....my garden! First, there is the exciting news that we now have a fence on one side...and once we call and pay the guys, we will be getting it on the rest of the yard, too (and finished fence means new dog!)! Our plan is to pretty much match what the neighbours chose on their side, although maybe different caps on the posts:

Fence on one side!

Then there is the insane oregano plant. This thing just won't stop growing! It grew under a foot of snow this winter, I swear. And since then it just keeps getting bigger. I have used A LOT of it lately in the kitchen, brought some in to dry...and went outside today and it's bigger yet again. See? (The thyme on the left is pretty good sized, too, but not as out of control. And it has pretty flowers now!)

Oregano (and thyme!)

And...Arugula!! The grocery store here is really good at stocking super-exotic produce (dragonfruit, anyone?), but not so good with the just slightly fancy produce. They get arugula in maybe once every few months....can't count on it. So I plant my own this year. I need to transplant these guys to the bigger bed so the have some space, but as you can see, I have lots of it coming in. Just had a little taste, and YUM! Peppery goodness.

Arugula!!

Final topic...school! Last week of teaching for the year, followed by our big camping trip next week. There was a big stink the end of last week when it looked like the trip might be cancelled, and we were afraid the principal had somehow decided to undermine everything we're doing. Turns out it was mostly miscommunication...the trip is on, so that's good, and we are still allowed to leave the troublesome kids at home, too. And I confirmed with the principal her intention to hire me full-time for the new middle school program next year. No written contracts available until the end of June (for all teaching staff, not just me), but it has been publicly announced, and confirmed to me twice now, so I feel good about that. Sadly, my "teammate" (fellow grade 7/8 teacher, with whom I have really started to bond) is leaving the school. She has been there 5 years and is really frustrated with lots of things, so I can understand her decision to move on, but I will miss working with her. I hope whoever takes the other half of the middle school program is someone I can work with well....

Oh, and I see JinAnn has tagged me for this 8 things about yourself meme....but I did the 5 weird things about myself meme earlier, and I don't think I can think of 8 new ones. Maybe I'll post a list later of 3 more that can be added to the original 5? And I definitely don't know who to tag, as I think I'm one of the last people to get hit with this meme. So maybe I'll just be a poor sport and not play at all....hmph!
